After a long wait, we bring you the first news about the new version of the operating system of Google, which will correspond to its tenth version. This will carry the letter Q, which as usual in the history of Android versions will follow the alphabet once more. We still do not know which dessert will name the version but who knows what Google will bring us this time.
At the moment the version is at the beginning of its development. And that is why we will see many more updates of the version over time. As usual in the development of a new version, Google has shown us what will be the development line of the Android Q version.
Currently, Android Q is in Beta 1, and although with a small amount of news. Those that have been implemented are quite important and give us a preview of the approach of this new version.
A FLOATING CONFIGURATION PANEL
One of the great novelties in terms of design is the ability to change standard configurations such as the Wi-Fi network configuration from a floating window. In this way, we avoid having to change these settings from the settings and thus we will not lose whatever we were doing at that moment.
NATIVE CUSTOMIZATION AND DARK MODE
Google is working on a dark mode system which will allow compatible applications to be affected by this configuration automatically. This dark so unlike those developed by third parties such as Oxygen OS of One Plus, bring the feature that if you have active will be active in all applications that have dark mode automatically.
Added to dark mode have also included natively the choice of the main color of the operating system, this is what is present in the notifications and configuration menus. This option is hidden in the developer options, and at the moment only let’s choose between a few colors. Over time we will see if this feature is implemented in the screen configuration, or if it will only be used by the developers.
RENEWED SHARING MENU
Although it does not bring a big design change in this sharing menu, what it does include is a great improvement in its stability. Making this much faster and without those seconds waiting for the sharing options to be shown.
RENEWING THE FILE APPLICATION
The native file application of Android has been renewed giving compatibility with the dark mode of the operating system. They have also given a facelift to the application giving it a more Material Theme design allowing, for example, to choose between the types of files to be displayed from the start of the application without having to open the drop-down menu.
COMPATIBILITY WITH FOLDING SCREENS
Following the announcement of the arrival of flip phones this year with the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X. Google has had to adapt its operating system so that it can be compatible with these terminals. Android Q will officially support native, allowing up to three applications at once on the screen as Samsung already presented in Unpacked 2019.
CHANGES THAT ARE NOT DEFINITIVE OR VARIABLE
Apart from the most notable changes, they have also included other smaller ones that in some cases only involved tests without a final design. Now, the north of the terminal will be shown in the screenshots. And let’s hope that this is a temporary option and not definitive since screenshots are somewhat wrong in this way.
Now in the notification bar, it will show how long the battery will last. This change seems very good and we hope it is final since it avoids having to look at the adjustments to know this information.
The notifications now can only be removed by sliding to the right, and if left will slip into the options menu of notification. In this case, we do not see that it is a big change, but if you are left-handed, this may not be the best way to eliminate notifications.
GREATER PRIVACY FOR THE USER
Last but not least, Android Q will allow more privacy to users with a new feature, which will give us the option to choose which applications can make use of the location in the background. With this function, we can choose if we want an application to have our location in real-time when we are using it or can use it whenever it wants even when it is closed or in the background.
